Officers from the Police Station in Karpacz identified and then arrested a 26-year-old resident of Karkonosze County suspected of a series of catalytic-converter thefts. – As officers established, from September last year to May this year, the suspect committed a series of thefts in Karpacz and throughout Karkonosze County. He stole catalytic converters from passenger vehicles of various makes, belonging to tourists and residents – reports junior aspirant Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the press team of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – The victims’ total losses amount to more than 20,000 zlotys.

It turned out that the 26-year-old had committed at least 12 such offenses. The man also stole metal grilles securing a utility room, worth 5,000 zlotys, which he subsequently sold at a scrap-metal collection point.

The suspect was identified, among other things, through analysis of surveillance-camera footage. Two stolen catalytic converters were also found; the man had hidden them in bushes near his place of residence.

Efforts to recover the rest of the stolen property are ongoing. The 26-year-old faces up to five years in prison.
