– Police made a gruesome discovery at the end of last month in one of the apartments in Chocianów. The 51-year-old’s body was already partially decomposed, indicating that the death had occurred several days earlier – says junior asp. Przemysław Rybikowski, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Polkowice.
He adds: – The evidence collected so far indicates that the deceased resident of Chocianów came to visit the couple and that they were all drinking alcohol.
After analyzing the sequence of events, officers determined that an argument broke out at some point. The 37-year-old host then hit and knocked down the victim, struck him several times and began strangling him with his hands, causing his death. (The 36-year-old female resident of Chocianów was also in the apartment during the incident).
The spokesperson: – The police intervened practically at the last possible moment, as on the day of their arrest the couple had planned to dispose of the body. This intervention was possible thanks to the vigilance of neighbors and an appropriate civic response.
Ultimately, the evidence gathered by the officers enabled them to charge the 37-year-old man with murder, while his 36-year-old wife was charged with four offenses in total:
- desecrating a corpse,
- destroying evidence of a crime,
- failing to notify law enforcement authorities,
- failing to provide assistance to a person exposed to the immediate danger of loss of life or serious harm to health.
The Lubin court temporarily detained both suspects. He faces up to life imprisonment, while she faces from three months to as much as five years in prison.
