The exercises also included the practical evacuation of people from endangered buildings to a designated assembly point, the evacuation and assistance of injured people, as well as procedures for cooperation between the duty services, the military and State Fire Services, and the medical evacuation team.
During the second part of the exercises, the commander of the military fire service conducted training on the principles of using portable firefighting equipment, combined with practical firefighting of a controlled fire, including a cooking-oil fire. There was also a demonstration of the uncontrolled development of an oil fire when water was used as an unsuitable extinguishing agent.
The aim of the training, attended by the Military Fire Service, State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Service units, as well as the Medical Support Group, was to assess the ability of personnel responsible for organizing rescue and firefighting operations at the military unit, as well as to check the operational readiness of the forces and resources designated to participate in firefighting operations. In addition to the artillery personnel, the participants included soldiers and employees subordinate to the Ministry of National Defence and military institutions of the Bolesławiec garrison.
The simulated fire alarm was prepared and conducted by the regiment’s fire protection inspector, Senior Warrant Officer Grzegorz Szczęsny, with the assistance of the Bolesławiec County State Fire Service headquarters, the Military Fire Service of the 10th Armoured Cavalry Brigade from Świętoszów, Volunteer Fire Service units from Warta Bolesławiecka and Ocice, and the Bolesławiec Forest District.
In summarizing the training, commander Colonel Krzysztof Malankiewicz emphasized the need for effective cooperation between duty services during firefighting operations at the military unit, as well as soldiers’ proficiency in using portable firefighting equipment.
