– Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 2 million 885 thousand people have entered our country – Deputy Minister Paweł Szefernaker, the government plenipotentiary for war refugees from Ukraine, said. He added that in recent days, an average of 20,000–30,000 people from Ukraine have been entering Poland each day. In the last 24 hours (data from April 21), the number was 22,000.

– 95% of the registered refugees in the PESEL database are women and children. This shows how exceptional this migration is – the deputy minister said. He noted that 467,000 people registered in the PESEL database are adults.

As the initially adopted 60-day adaptation period for refugees set out in the act is coming to an end, a bill amending the act in this regard will be considered by the Sejm next week. Deputy Minister:

People who have taken up residence in Polish homes or collective accommodation facilities will be able to extend their stay by another 60 days. This is time for adaptation. The data clearly indicate that the majority of refugees have become independent in our country.

The plenipotentiary stressed that there are no plans for another extension. Ministry officials clarified: – Only in exceptional situations, for example in the case of elderly people or mothers with children, will it be possible to extend the deadline individually. The next two months are intended to allow refugees from Ukraine to find accommodation or work.

Paweł Szefernaker:

The actions taken by the government, local authorities and non-governmental organizations focused mainly on organizing reception facilities and providing basic humanitarian assistance. Now that migration flows have stabilized, we can take further decisions.

The mechanisms needed to help refugees from Ukraine adapt are to be developed in cooperation with local authorities and entrepreneurs by June 25.
