The incident took place in the evening on the Złotoryja section of the A4 motorway. A report received by the police duty officer indicated that the driver of a passenger car had caused a collision with a truck.
Traffic officers confirmed the report. The collision between the vehicles mentioned above occurred in the right-hand lane, in the direction of Wrocław. The 43-year-old driver of a Mazda passenger car drove into the rear of a truck travelling ahead of him. Two men were travelling in the passenger car; fortunately, no one was injured.
It turned out, however, that the 43-year-old driver was not only completely drunk—the test showed nearly 3 per mille of alcohol in his system—but also did not have a driving licence. The Mazda was towed away, and the extremely irresponsible man was taken into police custody.
Police:
For driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated, without the required authorisation, and causing a road collision, the court imposed a fine and ordered him to pay a total of PLN 10,000 to the Fund for Assistance to Victims and Post-Penitentiary Assistance, as well as a 4.5-year driving ban.
Officers: – We remind you that, under the applicable regulations, driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated is a crime. It is punishable by a fine, restriction of liberty or imprisonment for up to 2 years. The court additionally imposes a criminal measure in the form of a driving ban lasting from 3 to 15 years.
They add: – Let us remember: getting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol poses a danger to ourselves as well as to other road users. And, as the situation described above shows, driving under the influence does not pay.
