On April 8, the mayor of Pirna, Klaus-Peter Hanke, arrived with a delegation of colleagues and firefighters, bringing cleaning and personal hygiene products, blankets, sleeping bags, dishes, medicines and other items included on Zbarazh’s list of needs. The donations were delivered to the collection warehouse in the gymnasium of Primary School No. 4 on Bielska Street, operated by the Municipal Social Welfare Centre and the Volunteer Centre.
The guests from Pirna visited the clothing and food distribution point “Helping Hand” on Parkowa Street, operated by Polish and Ukrainian volunteers under the leadership of Kinga Gęsicka-Biały. The point is very popular with Ukrainian guests, who obtain essential items there. It is also regularly replenished by the local community and volunteers.
Together with Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman, the guests attended an Easter reception at the II Community Self-Help Home, prepared by the facility’s participants and carers. Manager Agnieszka Pisarek-Grzesiak introduced the guests to the activities and forms of support offered at the centre for adults on Parkowa Street.
The delegation from Pirna also visited a refugee centre where Ukrainian mothers with children are staying under the care of Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre staff, as well as the temporary donations collection point at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramics Centre.
