District police officers patrolling Leszczyna (Złotoryja County) spotted an Opel passenger car approaching from the opposite direction. – They then activated the signals ordering the vehicle to stop for a traffic check – reports Staff Sergeant Dominika Kwakszys, press officer of the County Police Headquarters in Złotoryja. – The driver's reaction was the complete opposite. Despite the light and sound signals from the police car, the driver began fleeing in reverse.
The result? The fleeing car veered onto wasteland and then crashed into the police car. The officers jumped out of their vehicle and arrested the fugitive. He turned out to be a 31-year-old resident of Złotoryja County, traveling with a 44-year-old passenger from Jawor County.
It quickly emerged that the man who had tried to flee from the police did not have a driving licence, and that the Opel itself had license plates transferred from another vehicle. But that was not all. The test showed that the driver was under the influence of three different drugs. (His blood was taken for further testing.)
Spokeswoman:
The car was towed to a police impound lot, and the driver was arrested and taken to the County Police Headquarters in Złotoryja.
The man now faces a sentence of between three months and as many as five years in prison.
