The incident occurred during the night of April 1–2, at around 3:00 a.m. A multi-family building in Jelenia Góra caught fire. – The first to arrive at the scene were officers from the Prevention Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra. Practically the entire building was already on fire, from the boiler room to the entrance door. The building was heavily smoke-filled – reports Sub-Inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra. – Some residents left the building on their own. One woman who managed to get out through a balcony told the officers that a resident with mobility problems was in an apartment on the first floor and needed immediate help, as he was unable to get out on his own.

Sergeant Paweł Popiół and Constable Bartosz Serafin climbed up the building’s wall without hesitation and entered through the window of the apartment indicated by the woman. The apartment was already heavily smoke-filled; a disabled man who could not move independently was inside.

The officers carried the man out in their arms and provided him with first aid until the ambulance arrived.

Meanwhile, firefighters arrived at the scene and used a ladder to evacuate more people from the building.

The man carried out of the building by the police officers was taken to hospital. The other people received medical assistance at the scene.

The fire was extinguished. Activities aimed at clarifying the circumstances of the incident are now underway. The officers said:
