The duty officer at the Lubań police station was notified about the discovery of shells from World War II. – A police patrol was immediately sent to the site; it confirmed the discovery and cordoned off the area. At the same time, a second patrol went to another location, where another artillery shell was found – reports asp. szt. Justyna Bujakiewicz-Rodzeń, press officer of the County Police Headquarters in Lubań.
She adds:
Securing the dangerous find lasted all night so that unauthorized persons could not access it.
Soldiers from the Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment in Bolesławiec intervened at the site. The unexploded ordnance was detonated.
But that was not the end. Further dangerous finds were also discovered in Uniegoszcz, approximately 500 meters from the nearest buildings. They were:
- one 75 mm artillery shell,
- two 12.7 mm rifle cartridges,
- one Type B mortar grenade.
