Bolesławiec police officers are appealing for caution and warning against scammers who may pose as fake bank employees. A few days ago, a 51-year-old woman who fell victim to such a crime reported to one of the police stations in Lower Silesia.
On the morning of March 16 this year, a woman calling from a number associated with the Świdnica County called the 51-year-old resident and claimed to be an employee of the bank where she holds an account. She informed her that her loan application had been successfully verified. When the 51-year-old denied submitting any loan application, the fake “bank employee” stated that, to cancel the loan, she had to generate a special BLIK code. Unaware of the scam, the woman generated the code and gave it to the caller, who withdrew PLN 2,000 from an ATM in Poland. This is a new method, and scammers are still not giving up.
The police appeal for particular caution:
Genuine bank employees do not ask customers for their login, account password, or, especially, authorization codes. If someone claiming to be a bank employee calls us and urges us to transfer funds to another account, generate and provide electronic payment codes, or install software on a phone or computer—we can be absolutely certain that WE ARE SPEAKING TO A SCAMMER.
Let us be more alert to this type of information and notify the police as soon as possible.
