Legnica traffic police, patrolling the S3 expressway in an unmarked police car equipped with a video recorder, stopped the driver of a BMW for a traffic check. The 37-year-old was speeding at 219 km/h, in a place where the limit is 120 km/h.
The man explained to the officers that he was hurrying to a business meeting.
The speeding driver was fined PLN 2,500 and lost his driving licence. The officers say:
Let us remember that speed has the greatest impact on the length of the braking distance, which increases proportionally to the speed at which we are travelling. In addition, road conditions and traffic intensity must be taken into account. It is not without reason that the speed limit is reduced on certain sections of road.
They also add:
Unfortunately, drivers disregard these requirements, downplaying the dangers they may face. And that is when speed is so extremely important, as it has a huge impact on reaction time, decisions and manoeuvres.
