On 17 January 2019, at the instruction of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, officers from the County Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec arrested four people and searched several properties in Jelenia Góra, Bolesławiec and other localities in Jelenia Góra and Bolesławiec counties.

In a building located in Bolesławiec County, a production line for synthesizing methamphetamine was discovered and dismantled. A number of chemicals and items of equipment used to produce drugs were seized.

The searches resulted in the seizure of nearly one million tablets containing pseudoephedrine, essential for producing the drug in question. Numerous empty packages for this type of medicine were also discovered.

Moreover, nearly two kilograms of methamphetamine and more than 80 grams of marijuana were seized.

Nearly 8 kilograms of “rice”

The investigation conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec established that a total of 7,992 grams of methamphetamine had been produced at the dismantled factory, and that an additional 36 kilograms of the drug had been attempted. The operation continued from October 2018 to January 2019, when it was thwarted as a result of actions by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Police.

Consequences

As security for the property, the criminals’ assets with a total value of PLN 550,000 were also seized, including cash, vehicles and various types of equipment, including consumer electronics and household appliances. Properties belonging to two suspects were also secured by establishing compulsory mortgages on them totaling PLN 350,000.

Wojciech W., Łukasz G., Tomasz Z. and Tomasz W. were accused of producing—jointly and in agreement—significant quantities of a psychotropic substance. Investigators: The perpetrators made the operation a permanent source of income.

Two of the perpetrators were also accused of possessing significant quantities of psychotropic substances and narcotic drugs. At Wojciech W.’s property, more than 1.8 kilograms of methamphetamine and nearly 90 grams of marijuana were found; at Łukasz G.’s property, more than 33 grams of methamphetamine were found.

The men did not plead guilty to the offenses charged.

Investigators’ actions

At the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, following the suspects’ arrest, pretrial detention was imposed on them. It was subsequently changed by the Court of Appeal in Wrocław to non-custodial measures: a property bond of PLN 30,000 each, police supervision and a travel ban.

On 18 December 2019, an indictment was filed with the District Court in Jelenia Góra.

A verdict was issued on 4 March 2022, finding Wojciech W. guilty of the offenses charged and sentencing him to 9 years’ imprisonment. Łukasz G. was sentenced to 8 years’ imprisonment. Tomasz Z. and Tomasz W. each received sentences of 7 years and 6 months’ imprisonment.

It adds:

In addition, the defendants were ordered to pay compensatory sums for drug-prevention efforts, ranging from PLN 50,000 to PLN 65,000.

The defendants were also ordered to forfeit the proceeds obtained from the crime, including money and property.

The convicted men are residents of Bolesławiec and one of the localities in Jelenia Góra County, aged between 39 and 50. The men had previously been convicted of various offenses, including crimes against life and health or property, illegal possession of firearms and fiscal offenses. One of them had already served a prison sentence and was therefore prosecuted as a recidivist.
