Jelenia Góra criminal investigators identified and then arrested a 46-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra suspected of filing a false report of a crime, giving false testimony and fraud. Deputy Inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra:
On 27 December last year, the man went to Police Station I in Jelenia Góra and reported a burglary at his company.
And she adds:
According to the report, property worth more than PLN 560,000 had been stolen in the crime. It included 886 mobile phones of various brands, three scooters and three vacuum cleaners.
After analysing the information provided by the reporting party, as well as surveillance footage, the officers determined that the report was nonsense. The result? It emerged that the man had given false testimony in order to obtain compensation. (The tactic proved effective: the fraudster had already received a PLN 125,000 advance payment.)
The officers recovered some of the property and secured the money.
At the prosecutor's request, the 46-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra was remanded in custody by the court for two months. The detainee could face up to eight years in prison.
