During an inspection on the A4 motorway heading towards Jędrzychowice, officers of the Zgorzelec Customs and Tax Service detected an illegal shipment of waste to Poland. – The officers prevented the transport of more than 15 tonnes of used plastic packaging – informs Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, press spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS. – This is already the third seizure of illegal waste by officers of the Lower Silesian National Revenue Administration this year.
The Polish recipient of the seized waste reported the transport in the SENT system, but did not have the required permit for processing it and was unable to recover or dispose of it in accordance with Community regulations. The result? The Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection deemed this transport an illegal shipment of waste.
Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek:
We remind you that the transport of waste must be reported in the Electronic Transport Supervision System (SENT). The SENT system is a tool for combating cross-border crime. It will improve the effectiveness of inspections conducted jointly with the Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection.
The trailer together with the goods was seized for the criminal proceedings. The driver was fined PLN 200. However, this is not the end. KAS: – In administrative proceedings, the carrier faces a combined fine of PLN 13,000, while the recipient faces a fine of up to PLN 500,000 in criminal proceedings.
