Leaving water in a plastic bottle, used candles and cloths for cleaning a gravestone by graves is a very common practice at the Bolesławiec cemetery. Not all grave owners do this, but most of them do. Therefore, when visiting the grave of a loved one, you may come across rubbish and dirty cloths that are, after all, perfectly visible.

Why do people do this? Do they not know that others can see the dirty cloths “hidden” behind their gravestone when they visit their own deceased loved ones? Perhaps it should be pointed out that there is no such thing as space behind a gravestone. Unless the grave really borders a wall or fence. And those are rare situations in a cemetery as extensive as the one in Bolesławiec.

Perhaps it is worth telling the neighbours who scrub and clean their gravestone and then place beautiful decorations on it that the cloth left behind their large plaque is an eyesore to those whose grave is next to it.
