Over the past few days, the actions of Lower Silesian officers have led to the seizure of considerable quantities of narcotic substances. More than 2,000 portions of methamphetamine, amphetamine, marijuana and mephedrone were secured. The youngest of those detained was 16 and the oldest 36; a court will now decide their fate.
Here are the latest successes of uniformed officers from our province:
- As a result of operational work, police officers from the Zgorzelec “Nysa” group detained a 28-year-old woman from Wrocław County suspected of possessing a significant quantity of drugs. During the operation, officers found and secured plastic bags containing a white crystalline substance, electronic scales and money among the woman’s belongings. Tests showed that the substance was methamphetamine—more than 1,500 portions. The secured money, amounting to PLN 7,500 and EUR 115, was seized towards the fines and penalties facing the woman.
- Police officers from Wałbrzych County seized 300 portions of narcotic substances. It began with a routine domestic intervention because an aggressive 16-year-old was causing a disturbance in an apartment. It turned out that the young resident of Wałbrzych was hiding considerable quantities of various drugs, including amphetamine, methamphetamine and marijuana, at home and on his person. The teenager was detained by officers, who subsequently also proved that he had been trafficking narcotic substances. His case will now be handled by the family court.
- During a roadside check, officers from the Oleśnica county police headquarters found nearly 110 portions of mephedrone and marijuana in a 30-year-old man’s vehicle. They secured more than 100 additional portions of narcotic substances while searching the man’s apartment. He is also suspected of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs; he initially admitted that he had taken them several hours before the journey. He behaved very nervously during the intervention, arousing the officers’ suspicions. It also turned out that he did not hold a driving licence because it had been taken away after he exceeded the speed limit in a built-up area by more than 50 km/h. The 30-year-old will now appear directly before the court for the acts of which he is suspected.
- Police officers from Jawor struck at drug crime, detaining three people suspected of possessing narcotic substances. The first was caught during a roadside check near the market square. It turned out that, in addition to not holding a driving licence, he had marijuana hidden in his trouser pocket. The 36-year-old was immediately detained and taken to the Jawor police headquarters. The subsequent actions had already been planned. Police tracked down a resident of Bolków municipality who had drugs in his apartment. While searching one of the rooms, criminal investigators found an aluminium package containing methamphetamine. The 39-year-old was, of course, detained. The following day, police entered the apartment of a 30-year-old man from Jawor and immediately noticed marijuana lying on the table. The man was surprised by the officers’ visit and did not even try to hide the narcotic substances.
Let us recall that possession of drugs is punishable by up to 3 years in prison, or up to 10 years when the subject of the offence is a significant quantity. Drug trafficking is punishable by up to 8 years, or up to 12 years when a significant quantity is involved.
