During a routine inspection on the A4 motorway, heading towards Jędrzychowice, officers from the Zgorzelec branch of the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Wrocław detected an illegal shipment of waste into Poland. – They prevented 24 tonnes of used horticultural film contaminated with soil from being brought into the country. The Polish recipient of the waste did not have the required permit to process such waste and was unable to recover or dispose of it in accordance with Community regulations – explains Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS.
She adds:
The Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection deemed the transport an illegal shipment of waste.
The trailer and its cargo were seized for further criminal proceedings, and the driver was given two fines of PLN 200 each. The carrier faces a total fine of PLN 16,000, while the recipient could be fined up to half a million zlotys.
