– We are steadily implementing our railway-line revitalization project. The section is nearly 10 km long. As the regional government, we received more than PLN 21 million from the Polish Deal for the revitalization of this line. The company selected in the tender to carry out the necessary revitalization work will have 15 months from the date the contract is signed. Taking over and launching successive routes is extremely important to us in the fight against transport exclusion in various parts of the voivodeship, but it also has a positive impact on the development of tourism in the region – says Marshal Cezary Przybylski.

And he announces:

Passenger rail will soon return to Karpacz – after more than 20 years – just as we promised.

The entire line was taken over by the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Government last year, together with lines 340 and 345. Now, thanks to funding received under the Polish Deal, it will be possible to renovate an approximately 10-kilometre section. The next step is to renovate the nearly 7-kilometre section of the route leading to Karpacz.

– Local community interest in the return of rail to Karpacz is very high. The measures undertaken by the regional government are a response to residents’ expectations. Rail to Karpacz will also provide an important impetus for tourism development in the Jelenia Góra subregion – emphasizes Marek Obrębalski, deputy head of the regional assembly.

The renovation will allow trains to operate at a speed of 60 km/h and will cover not only the tracks, but also the stops and structures located along the line, such as the tunnel and viaducts. In addition, shelters, benches, bicycle racks, lighting and monitoring systems will be installed at the stops.

– We want this investment to be carried out efficiently and solidly, which is why companies entering the tender must have experience and, within the last five years, have completed at least one task involving the revitalization, modernization, construction or reconstruction of a railway line worth at least PLN 5 million gross – says Tymoteusz Myrda, member of the regional government.

In Lower Silesia, the regional government is carrying out an ambitious project—the largest of its kind in the country—to revitalize currently unused railway lines belonging to PKP SA and PKP PLK and restore passenger connections on them. The positive effects are already visible:

  • 19 of the 22 railway-line sections taken over from PKP,
  • the railway line to Bielawa was revitalized at a record pace—in less than a year,
  • work is underway on the lines to Świeradów-Zdrój, Chojnów and Chocianów.
