UPC Polska is sending selected customers (those with open-ended contracts) emails informing them that their Internet speed will be increased (to up to 500 Mb/s or up to 750 Mb/s, respectively) or that the number of available TV channels will be increased (moving to a higher package with up to 182 channels). Interestingly, the change is scheduled to take place automatically from February 1; in the case of Internet service, restarting the modem is sufficient.
Check whether you have received a message from UPC about faster Internet or a higher TV package.
At this point, this information will probably please quite a few of the operator’s customers. However, later in the message we read that, alongside the increase in speed/number of channels, the monthly fee will rise by PLN 8. This way of proceeding by the operator annoys some UPC network users, who claim on social media forums that it is an unfair move and that the operator should have asked customers beforehand and activated the service only after obtaining their consent, rather than acting, so to speak, by surprise.
Nationwide operator’s actions are being described by websites covering Internet and television topics. Meanwhile, UPC customers are asking the operator about the details of this campaign on its Facebook Profile, to which the operator replies:
(...) the articles concern the “More benefits for you” programme, through which you receive improved UPC services—faster Internet or an expanded television package. However, we leave our Customers complete flexibility in making their decision; they can, for example, try the improved services and later decide whether they want to keep them for longer. We inform Customers about all available choices through regular email, postal or SMS communications. If you have any questions, we remain at your disposal. Best regards
The wirtualnemedia.pl website reports that UPC customers with open-ended contracts are receiving the offer of faster Internet or a move to a higher TV package. How can this increase and activation of the new service be avoided?
People who do not want to use faster Internet at all can declare this by the end of January 2022 at a special web address (upc.pl/zmiana-uslugi). The form requires the customer number (which can be found on monthly bills sent by email) and PESEL number. In that case, these customers’ Internet speed and subscription fees will not change.
Users who take no action will be able to test the increased Internet speed until July 31, 2022. Within six months, they can decide whether to use the improved service or return to the previous one. In that case, the operator will refund the difference in the subscription fee for the period from February 1 until the date they contact the helpline. At upc.pl/zmiana-uslugi/przypomnienie, users can request that an email be sent in May reminding them about the ongoing faster-Internet test.
