At the end of 2021, fuel at petrol stations became cheaper, falling from PLN 6 to PLN 5.75 per litre. This was due to the excise duty on fuel being reduced to the lowest possible level. A relevant law was passed in this matter which, incidentally, imposed a specific information obligation on petrol station retailers.

It follows that the reduction is part of the government’s measures and the Government Anti-Inflation Shield. But that is not the end of the good news for drivers. Fuel will soon become even cheaper. This will happen after the VAT reduction on fuel. A litre of petrol or diesel should cost around PLN 5.

As the auto-swiat.pl website reports

:

By 31 May 2022, a seller conducting sales of motor fuels must display, at the checkout in the business premises where these fuels are sold, clear information stating that from 20 December 2021 to 31 May 2022 a reduced excise duty on motor fuels is in effect, and that from 1 January 2022 to 31 May 2022 retail sales of motor fuels are not subject to the retail sales tax.

Information about lower prices will soon appear in grocery stores

Another government idea for fighting inflation is to reduce VAT on certain food products from 5% to 0%. These include vegetables and fruit, cereals, meat, dairy products, fats and oils, water, and drinks containing at least 20% juice.

Just as petrol stations will be required to do so, stores will also be obliged to inform customers where the lower food prices came from.

The businessinsider.com.pl website reports

:

Lower VAT obviously means lower prices for several months, but that is not all. The changes entail additional obligations for store owners and petrol station managers. They will have to inform customers about the reductions in such a way that customers understand they are paying less because of the Anti-Inflation Shield and that the reduction is only temporary.

"By 31 July 2022, a seller conducting sales of: food products must display, at the checkout in the business premises where these products are sold, clear information stating that from 1 February 2022 to 31 July 2022 a VAT rate reduced to 0% applies to food products" – the draft law reads.

Sellers of gas, heating and electricity, as well as sellers of fertilisers, will also be subject to a similar obligation to inform customers about reduced prices.
