Fines for road offenses are increasing. On December 30, 2021, an amendment changing the regulation on the amount of fines imposed by way of penalty notices for selected types of offenses was published in the Journal of Laws. The amendment was signed by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

From January 1, 2022, the maximum fine that a court may impose will increase from PLN 5,000 to PLN 30,000. Meanwhile, a police officer will be entitled to issue a fine of up to PLN 5,000.

New penalties for selected offenses:

The fine for using a phone while driving (holding the handset) will be PLN 500. The fine for failing to yield to a pedestrian who is on a crossing or is entering it will be PLN 1,500. The same fine will be paid by a driver overtaking at a pedestrian crossing or immediately before it.

A PLN 2,000 fine will be paid by a driver traveling on a motorway or expressway in the opposite direction. Parking in a space for a person with a disability will cost PLN 800.

The fine for causing a traffic safety hazard on a public road while under the influence of alcohol or a similarly acting substance will be as much as PLN 2,500.

Fines for exceeding the speed limit:

  • up to 10 km/h – PLN 50,
  • by 11–15 km/h – PLN 100,
  • by 16–20 km/h – PLN 200,
  • by 21–25 km/h – PLN 300,
  • by 26–30 km/h – PLN 400,
  • by 31–40 km/h – PLN 800 – PLN 1,600 in the case of repeat offending,
  • by 41–50 km/h – PLN 1,000 – PLN 2,000 in the case of repeat offending,
  • by 51–60 km/h – PLN 1,500 – PLN 3,000 in the case of repeat offending,
  • by 61–70 km/h – PLN 2,000 – PLN 4,000 in the case of repeat offending,
  • by 71 km/h or more – PLN 2,500 – PLN 5,000 in the case of repeat offending.
