On 8 October 2020, two men were detained in Bolesławiec County while transporting nearly 60,000 pseudoephedrine tablets, a so-called precursor used to produce the psychotropic substance methamphetamine. The tablets possessed by the perpetrators were not available in Poland; they came from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A search of the property occupied by the suspects also revealed packaging from nearly 25,000 similar tablets.

The perpetrators were subsequently placed in temporary detention at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office.

On 4 January 2021, by court decision, J. P. and A. P. were released from detention. Police supervision and a ban on leaving the country were imposed on them.

On 7 April 2021, J. P. was detained again. After leaving detention, he had continued the same criminal activity.

In a rented garage, he possessed nearly 1 kg of methamphetamine and more than 300 grams of a substance used to increase the drug’s saleable bulk. He also had 100 grams of cannabis herb other than fiber hemp. J. P. had additionally stockpiled more than 2 kg of pseudoephedrine crystals. The man was preparing to introduce the psychotropic substance into circulation.

After his detention, he was placed in temporary detention again at the prosecutor’s request.

The tablets and pseudoephedrine crystals seized from the perpetrators made it possible to produce a total of more than 10.5 kg of methamphetamine.

The men were charged with aiding in the manufacture of significant quantities of psychotropic substances, preparing to introduce drugs into circulation, and possessing them. These offenses are punishable by imprisonment ranging from 3 to 15 years.

The accused brothers are residents of Bolesławiec, aged 26 and 25.

Both suspects had previously been convicted. A. P. was convicted of an offense under Article 177 § 2 of the Polish Criminal Code, while J. P. was convicted of theft committed in Germany and other prohibited acts in judgments handed down by Polish courts.
