What do we know about Teresa Werner?
Teresa Werner has always loved singing. Even as a little girl, she brought joy to her family with her singing at family gatherings, accompanied by her uncle. It was her uncle who encouraged her to try her hand in a professional ensemble. At the age of 16, she passed the entrance examination for the Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble. From that point on, life accelerated considerably: learning to sing and dance, countless rehearsals and hours devoted to perfecting her talents. At the same time, she also had to find time for school and studying. The young woman from Nakło Śląskie had to make many sacrifices, but gained a wonderful opportunity not only to do what she loved in life, but also to travel around Poland and the world and meet many remarkable people. Her skills, talents and hard work were recognised, earning her the title of the longest-performing artist with ZPiT Śląsk—32 years and 8 months.
She performed on the stages of the world’s greatest theatres, including Carnegie Hall and Broadway. Her performances took her across Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. In 1991, Teresa Werner represented the “Śląsk” ensemble at the Folk Song Festival in South Africa, where she took first place.
However, she did not rest on her laurels. Immediately after finishing her work with the ensemble, she decided once again to test her abilities by releasing her first single, “Miłość jest piękna,” which was very positively received by listeners. This encouraged her to release her first album, “Spełnić marzenia,” which quickly achieved gold and then platinum status. Once again, she threw herself into a whirlwind of work: recordings, concerts, interviews, more songs, albums, music videos and trips. Her songs became hits recognised throughout Poland and abroad, attracting millions of views on online services. She was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Higher Council of Experts of the International Intellectual Society of the Independent International PEN Club, and in 2013 she received the “Meritorious for Polish Culture” honorary badge from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Her collaborations with many foreign artists, including Graziano Facchini, Rico Sanchez, Mihael Hercog and, above all, Goran Karan, resulted in a performance at the International Festival “Večeri dalmatinske šansone 2013” in Šibenik, Croatia, where she received positive reactions from Croatian critics.
In total, she has released four studio albums with her hits, four DVDs featuring music videos, interviews and concerts, and an album of Christmas carols. She has also launched her own perfume line under the Teresa Werner brand. It can confidently be said that she has fulfilled not only her own dreams, but also those of many other people.
After 10 years of a solo career, her radiance still has not faded. The artist continues working on new songs and music videos. What is more, she is launching new projects, preparing another perfume line, working on publishing a book and staging further concerts to celebrate her jubilee. Especially for this occasion, she invited Croatian artist Goran Karan, with whom she has also been collaborating for almost 10 years. Their joint duets—both familiar and entirely new—will surely surprise more than one fan.
Goran Karan began his musical career in the early 1980s, performing with such bands as Epicentre, The Ninth Circle and Zippo, and as the leader of the rock band Big Blue. In 1997, he decided to begin a solo career. At the end of 1998, he played the leading male role in the musical Rock It, staged at Vienna’s Ronacher Theatre. In 1999, he released his debut studio album, Kao da te ne volim, created in collaboration with one of Croatia’s most outstanding composers, Zdenko Runjić. The album quickly achieved platinum status, and Goran Karan began conquering Croatian radio, newspapers and television. In 2000, he was selected to represent Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest, where he placed ninth. He is a winner of the prestigious Croatian Porin Award in the categories of Best Male Vocal, Best Pop Music Album and Best Collaboration (a duet with Oliver Dragojević). He co-authored the musical “Naša bila štorija,” written together with Nenad Ninčević, known for his collaborations with the biggest stars of Croatian music.
Anyone familiar with these artists and their hits will surely be eager to attend the upcoming concert. For those who have not yet had the opportunity to hear Teresa and Goran’s hits, this is a chance to discover what makes them so phenomenal.
