Motorways A2, A4 and A6—these roads were patrolled over the last two days of November by inspectors from the GITD Centre for Automatic Traffic Enforcement, conducting targeted checks. GITD:

Officers in unmarked police cars selected primarily heavy vehicles for inspection when their drivers failed to comply with overtaking bans.

The inspectors point out:

Trucks overtaking despite a ban are unfortunately still a common sight on motorways. Some drivers even decide to overtake columns of vehicles. Such behaviour creates a hazard on the road and causes traffic jams.

That is why CANARD inspectors focused this time primarily on truck drivers who failed to comply with the regulations.

The results? More than 370 inspections and 392 penalty fines, most of them—as many as 73 percent—in connection with ignoring the overtaking ban. Drivers stopped for inspection explained that they had not seen the signs or did not know that the ban was in force.

There were also fines for exceeding the speed limit (including 49 drivers from east of the border). Inspectors also checked the technical condition of the vehicles. In 21 cases, it was necessary to seize the registration certificates, most often because the vehicles did not have up-to-date technical inspections.
