Renovation of Łasicka and Żeromskiego streets in Bolesławiec has been completed. Speed humps with pedestrian crossings were installed on both streets. In the reader’s opinion, the humps should not have been installed there. Why?
Reader:
Under the provisions of the infrastructure minister’s regulation on the technical conditions for road signs and signals, speed humps cannot be installed on roads used by city buses. Otherwise, the road administrator is required to remove them. Please address this matter on Łasicka and Żeromskiego streets, where a new surface and speed humps are being installed.
City buses run along Żeromskiego and Łasicka streets. The humps installed there have a special shape, and buses pass over them without major problems. Both humps have pedestrian crossings. The humps on Żeromski and Łasicka are similar to those in other parts of the city, for example on Dolne Młyny, Lubańska and Starzyńskiego streets. Buses also run along these streets. We have already reported on the humps on Żeromskiego and Łasicka in the article of 21 November.
Below, we publish a comment from the District Roads Authority in Bolesławiec.
Paweł Bednarski – District Roads Authority in Bolesławiec:
As for the hump on Łasicka Street, the scope of work involved only restoring the existing hump, which had already been installed there earlier. Regarding the new hump on Żeromskiego Street, I would like to inform you that, in consultation with MZK, the bus routes will be modified so that their passage does not conflict with the installed hump. I would also add that there is no city transport stop on Żeromskiego Street.
I would like to emphasize that the safety of vulnerable road users is particularly important in the case of a new road surface, which gives drivers the opportunity to reach speeds higher than permitted, and that using features such as a raised pedestrian crossing is entirely justified.
