On Wednesday, November 24, at around 5:00 p.m., carbon monoxide poisoning occurred in one of the buildings in the Kwiatowe Estate in Bolesławiec. Firefighters were the first to arrive at the scene. An unconscious man was found inside the building. The firefighters began the rescue operation.

A short while later, a medical emergency team arrived at the scene, and the man was taken to hospital.

The carbon monoxide concentration in the building was very high. Measuring devices indicated 600 ppm*. The carbon monoxide was probably escaping from a water-heating appliance.

The apartment was ventilated and checked with measuring devices.

Together with the fire service, we appeal to residents to ensure that their heating systems and chimney installations are in good working order and technical condition. Inspection deadlines for the installations should also be observed. It is also worth getting a carbon monoxide detector. The device can save lives.

*At an average concentration of 400 ppm, a severe headache appears after approximately two hours, while life is simultaneously at risk. When the carbon monoxide level in a room reaches approximately 800 ppm, nausea, dizziness and vomiting occur, and after 45 minutes a person may fall into a coma. Death occurs after 2–3 hours.
