An operation by the services is under way near Trzebień, on the site of a former Soviet military rocket base. According to unofficial information obtained by “Gazeta Wrocławska”:
The WIOŚ received an anonymous report about an illegal dump of car parts in the area of a small dried-up lake. When officials previously tried to enter the site, they were fired upon—probably with blank-firing weapons—by a person guarding the scrapyard. After the incident, it was decided to carry out an operation together with the police.
It is not yet known whether any hazardous or flammable waste is actually located there; the services are checking precisely that.
The istotne.pl portal, meanwhile, established that istotne.pl had dispatched, among others, firefighters from Bolesławiec to the site. Tuesday’s operation by the uniformed services was interrupted, however, after military materials—probably unexploded ordnance—were found. Police bomb-disposal specialists were called to the site.
The activities are being carried out by the Regional Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in Wrocław. The operation will continue on Wednesday. We will return to the matter.
Bolesławiec Bomb-Disposal Patrol from the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment.
It should be borne in mind that explosives used in military technology are, in practice, completely resistant to weather conditions and retain their explosive properties regardless of their production date.
If you have any suspicion about an object you have found, call the bomb-disposal specialists. They will remove the danger; they are appropriately trained and equipped to do so.
What should we do if we find unexploded ordnance?
Soldiers:
- Do not touch such objects.
- Secure the site against access by unauthorized persons, such as children, and mark the location where the object was found.
- Immediately report it by calling the emergency number 112, the Police, Municipal Police, Fire Service or Forestry Service.
