Traffic on national roads in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship increased by nearly 30%—this is indicated by the results of the General Traffic Census (GPR) conducted by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways in 2020–2021. Greater increases were recorded only in the Małopolskie Voivodeship.
Where is it worst?
Road authorities: “The highest traffic volumes in our region are observed on the Wrocław A8 Motorway Bypass and the A4 motorway, within the Wrocław metropolitan area.”
Which sections are the busiest?
- A8 Wrocław Motorway Bypass, between the Wrocław Południe and Wrocław Północ interchanges, average daily traffic (SDRR) ranges from 73,586 to 85,832 vehicles per day;
- A4 between the Kostomłoty and Bielany Wrocławskie interchanges, SDRR ranges from 57,788 to 75,023 vehicles per day, depending on the section;
- A4 between the Bielany Wrocławskie and Brzeg interchanges, SDRR ranges from 43,026 to 45,922 vehicles per day;

Where did traffic decrease?
The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways adds: “At the same time, the survey shows that traffic decreased on most sections leading to border crossings:”
- DK35, state border (Golińsk)–Mieroszów, SDRR: 973 vehicles per day;
- DK5, Lubawka–state border, SDRR: 1,489 vehicles per day;
- DK3, Szklarska Poręba–state border (Jakuszyce), SDRR: 1,604 vehicles per day.
Road administrator:
The largest decreases compared with the 2015 GPR, caused mainly by opening new sections of the S5 and S3 expressways, were recorded, among others, on:
- DK3, Lubin (Lubin Północ interchange–Hutnicza Street), by 32%;
- DK36, Prochowice–Lisowice, by 32%;
- DK35, state border (Golińsk)–Mieroszów, by 23%;
- DK36, Lisowice–Lubin, by 21%;
- DK3, Lubin (Ścinawska Street–KEN Street), by 20%.
How often are measurements conducted?
GPR is conducted every five years. The previous one took place in 2015. The latest survey began in January 2020 and lasted approximately two years, which was related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.Officials sum up:
As the data indicate, passenger-car traffic and truck traffic with trailers increased nationwide by more than 20%, and delivery-vehicle traffic by more than 40%. This may result, among other things, from changes in the structure of commerce since 2015, including the growing popularity of online shopping due to the COVID-19 pandemic.They add:
In the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, we manage a road network more than 1,300 km long. More than 400 measurement points were selected for the survey. Measurements were conducted over ten days. Six measurements were carried out around the clock. Traffic growth on the national-road network in the voivodeship compared with the previous survey in 2015 amounted to 29%, while average traffic was 16,933 vehicles per day.
