The renovation of Łasicka and Żeromskiego Streets in Bolesławiec is nearing completion. Speed bumps have been installed on both streets. According to the reader, they should not be there. Why?
Reader:
In accordance with the provisions of the regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure on the technical conditions for road signs and signals, speed bumps may not be installed on roads used by city buses. Otherwise, the road manager is obliged to remove them. I kindly ask you to address the matter on Łasicka and Żeromskiego Streets, where a new road surface and speed bumps are being installed.
The Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure and Development of 3 July 2015, amending the regulation on detailed technical conditions for road signs and signals, road traffic safety devices and the conditions for their placement on roads, states:
(...) The use of speed bumps is not permitted:
- on national and provincial roads,
- on urban expressways, main roads with accelerated traffic (GP) and main roads (G),
- on streets and roads used by fire brigade vehicles, emergency medical stations, etc.,
- on streets and roads served by passenger bus transport, except for island speed bumps,
- on roadways other than bituminous ones, if horizontal marking P-25 cannot be used,
- on road curves and in other cases where their presence could pose a risk to road traffic safety.
City buses operate on Żeromskiego and Łasicka Streets. The speed bumps have a special shape, and buses pass over them without major problems. Pedestrian crossings will also be installed on the speed bumps built on these streets. The speed bumps on Żeromskiego and Łasicka Streets are similar to those in other parts of the city, for example on Dolne Młyny, Lubańska and Starzyńskiego Streets. Buses also run along these streets.
Are these speed bumps compliant with the regulations?
We asked the Bolesławiec District Roads Authority for comment on the matter. We will publish it as soon as it is sent to us.
