On Tuesday, November 9, as many as 101 people infected with COVID-19 were hospitalized at the Zespół Opieki Zdrowotnej w Bolesławcu, meaning that all coronavirus beds were occupied. (At one point, the hospital was operating with so-called additional beds.)

The hospital is not resting on its laurels, however. This Wednesday, the facility will open 30 more beds for COVID-19 patients (for this purpose, a floor formerly occupied by the orthopedics department was adapted), and next week another 30. As a result, the Bolesławiec county hospital will have 160 places for infected patients.

As ZOZ director Kamil Barczyk assures, no operation has been postponed, and procedures are being performed both on an emergency and scheduled basis. (A temporary problem arose in the orthopedics department, but this is connected with SARS-CoV-2 infections. From next Monday, the department is expected to operate normally.)

According to forecasts, the number of infections will continue to increase for another month or two, which is unfortunately connected with the low vaccination rate among Poles. Whether it will therefore be necessary to close additional departments at the Bolesławiec hospital is not yet known. We will return to the matter.
