Last week, a reader called us:

Trees are being cut down on Dzieci Wrześni Street. No one knows why these beautiful, historic trees are being removed.

As we have established, the decision was made by county officials. The reason? The trees that were cut down posed a danger to pedestrians.

How did this happen?

The old concrete fence—dating from the turn of the 1960s and 1970s—at the Zespół Szkół Elektronicznych in Bolesławiec had tilted considerably, and because the trees were growing in its foundation, they had also leaned toward the sidewalk.

What happens next?

The fence itself will be modernized (and will be safe for pedestrians). Furthermore, in accordance with the law, a new tree will be planted in place of each tree that was cut down.
