The incident took place on 29 October in Jelenia Góra. Robert Obaz, a New Left MP, posted the following telling entry on his Facebook profile:

Today my parliamentary office in Jelenia Góra “gained” a new look. Instead of a Parliamentary Office, there is a Branch Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus.

Anyone who put up this sticker must despise people and refuse to help them.

For the Left, humanitarian aid and support for people fleeing war and hunger are our duty.

He added:

The situation of the refugees currently being held unlawfully at the Polish-Belarusian border is shameful. Those in power emphasize at every turn our roots in Christian values. Meanwhile, frozen refugees are camping at our border, and the Border Guard, acting on the orders of those in power, refuses them such basic necessities as food and drink.

The response to such a major international crisis must be decisive, but also coordinated action by the entire EU. Our eastern border is the external border of the European Union; for most refugees, Poland is a transit country, not their destination. Therefore, further action should be taken in close cooperation with our European partners.

We must seek substantive and concrete solutions. And what is the government doing? It wants to build a wall on the Polish-Belarusian border.

He also stressed:

As the Left, we say clearly: the security and integrity of Poland’s and the European Union’s borders are not incompatible with respecting human rights and the Geneva Convention. We will not be intimidated and, in every situation, we will stand guard over human rights.

The Left declares its full support for the Belarusian people’s aspirations for independence and democratic change in Belarus. Belarusians, like every free nation, should enjoy all civil rights and freedoms.
