According to polsatnews.pl, four people died as a result of yesterday’s windstorm that swept across Poland, all of them in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship:
The situation was worst in western Poland. In Lower Silesia, firefighters received more than 2,000 reports. It was in this voivodeship that four people died.
In Siechnice, a building wall collapsed onto a worker under the force of the wind gusts, while in Rusko a car overturned because of the windstorm. The driver died. In Wrocław, a tree fell onto a car, killing two people.
The windstorm also affected residents of Bolesławiec County. Firefighters carried out dozens, if not hundreds, of interventions. (Fortunately, no one died here.) Here are several of them. OSP Parowa:
[...] strong wind gusts occurred in Bolesławiec County and the neighboring counties. Our crew went out four times to deal with the effects of the strong wind.
Firefighters from Krzyżowa carried out the following interventions:
- A tree blocking the road between Krzyżowa and Tomaszów Bol.
- Near the site of the first intervention, a branch obstructing traffic.
- Next, we were dispatched to Kraśnik Górny, where a tree was also blocking the entire road.
- After an hour’s rest at the station, we were dispatched again, this time to Tomisław, where a tree had fallen onto a property, crushing power lines and damaging the roof. OSP OSIECZNICA and OSP ZEBRZYDOWA were also on site.
- At 7:32 p.m., we again received an alarm about a branch obstructing traffic on the road between Krzyżowa and Kraśnik Dolny.
Firefighters from OSP KSRG Nowogrodziec:
Since the morning hours [October 21], we have already carried out several interventions related to the strong wind, which caused trees to break. Our crews intervened in the municipality and town of Nowogrodziec, Bolesławiec Municipality, Warta Bolesławiecka Municipality and Lubań Municipality.
