– “It is thanks to the talent and perseverance of students, parents and teachers that we have the opportunity to meet today to applaud the winners of competitions in various fields of knowledge and skills at the international, national, provincial, regional and county levels” – these words opened this year’s “The Mayor Invites You” gala, held on National Education Day. The event also made it possible to honour teachers for their daily effort and patience, and to thank them for developing the passions and talents of their pupils and students.

On 14 October 2021, in the auditorium of the “Forum” cinema in Bolesławiec, Deputy Mayor Renata Szewczyk thanked teachers and all employees of educational institutions for their work during the difficult, pandemic 2020/21 school year. National Education Day is a special celebration for the entire community involved in the educational and upbringing process. It expresses gratitude and respect and provides an excellent opportunity to present awards and distinctions for special achievements to people who want and are able to “...turn human weaknesses into strength, combine the beauty of the body with the power of the mind, dress a blank sheet of paper in emotions, count the stars and discover distant galaxies...”.

This year, the Lower Silesian Superintendent of Education’s Award for special achievements was received by:

  • Teresa Prokowska, a teacher at Primary School No. 1.

The Bolesławiec City Mayor’s Award was received by:

Deputy Mayor Renata Szewczyk presented exceptionally talented primary school graduates with the “Bolesławiec City Mayor’s Awards”. The awards have a financial value and replace scholarships. Each award is worth PLN 1,000. The main criteria for nominating primary school graduates living in Bolesławiec for the “Bolesławiec City Mayor’s Award” for special achievements in the 2020/2021 school year were: an average grade of at least 5.1; exemplary or very good conduct; and eighth-grade examination results in Polish, mathematics and a foreign language ranging from 75% to 100%. In the eighth-grade examination, a student had to score between 75% and 100% in at least two parts. The nominated graduates had to have individual achievements, excluding team achievements, in competitions, contests and olympiads at least at county level: first place in county and regional competitions; and finalist status in provincial, national and international competitions, olympiads and events (first, second or third place). Outstanding achievements deserving recognition and resulting from standard activities undertaken as part of compulsory schooling were also scored. Graduates’ achievements concerned only students entered by their school to participate in competitions.
