– During an inspection on the A4 motorway, heading towards Jędrzychowice, officers of the Customs and Fiscal Service from Zgorzelec detected an illegal shipment of waste to Poland. KAS prevented the transport of nearly 23 tonnes of post-production plastic waste – reports Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, press spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS.
She adds:
The Polish recipient of the goods did not have the required permit to process the waste and was unable to recover or dispose of it in a manner compliant with EU regulations. The WIOŚ deemed the shipment illegal. The trailer and its cargo were seized for criminal proceedings.
What are the consequences?
The driver was fined 200 zł; the carrier faces a combined fine of up to 13,000 zł, while the recipient may face a fine of up to 500,000 zł in criminal proceedings.
