– It was my idea – says Bolesławiec mayor, Piotr Roman. – There are never too many trees. Trees need to be planted, especially since situations occur in which a tree becomes diseased and dies. Places where there are no trees are tropical places – adds the Bolesławiec mayor.

– The participants in this wonderful initiative are delighted. If it were not for planting the trees, they would never have found themselves here or seen this beautiful place, because we are at the “Nowa” water treatment plant, and this is the protected zone of the water intake, where people cannot enter on a daily basis – says Józef Król, from the Bolesławiec Water and Sewerage Company.

– We proposed planting rowan trees, which are not “girls”; they are common rowans. They have beautiful fruit and fragrant flowers, are very decorative and very useful. This is a biocenotic species, meaning that it supports biodiversity. It has beautiful flowers, from which we get honey, and we have pollinating insects. It has wonderful fruit, which some animals feed on – says Anna Makielska from the Bolesławiec Forest District.

Children from kindergartens and primary schools took part in the initiative, held on 2 October, together with their families.
