Who were we, who are we, and who will we become? These were the questions asked by participants in cross-border art workshops organised by Bolesławiecki Ośrodek Kultury – Międzynarodowe Centrum Ceramiki together with the Upper Lusatian Museum Association (Schlesisch-Oberlausitzer Museumsverbund).
– We have already concluded the exhibition of the “Lower Silesia – Yesterday – Today – Tomorrow” project at our German partner’s venue, but this is not the end – says project coordinator Dariusz Uściński. – We want Bolesławiec residents to be able to enjoy the works by artists from BOK – MCC and the Youth Cultural Centre once again. In October, the exhibition can be seen at the Knowledge Centre, and in November it will be hosted by the Youth Cultural Centre and the Old Theatre. We warmly invite you – invites Dariusz Uściński.
The works were created in four studios: two art studios led by Katarzyna Sas and Joanna Mysłek-Michnowskie, a ceramics studio led by Marta Małoszyc and a photography studio led by Grzegorz Sidorowicz.
The workshops resulted in an interesting and highly diverse exhibition, both thematically and in terms of the techniques used: batik, photography, ceramics, drawing, painting, collages, reliefs, sculptures and graphics. The variety of forms and subjects clearly distinguishes this exhibition, whose opening took place on 16 July at the BOK – MCC gallery.
The exhibition then travelled to the castle in Krobnitz, where it could be viewed from 6 August to 26 September 2021.
Anja Köhler from Schlesisch-Oberlausitzer Museumsverbund explained how the idea that shaped this project came about. It was inspired by a 2019 exhibition entitled Upper Lusatia in 2060: who were we, who are we, who will we be? The initiators asked the residents of Upper Lusatia an existential question: where will they be in 2060? The idea for this project was very well received in Bolesławiec by BOK – MCC, which decided to continue it by asking how the region’s residents would see themselves in 2060?
