The changes in the internal medicine ward were discussed during the latest session of the County Council, held on 28 January, by the acting head of the ward, Janusz Żołnowski. “At the first stage of my work, I was guided by two main principles: creating a medical team with appropriate qualifications and introducing changes that would improve patients’ comfort during their stay and adapt the ward to the required standards,” Żołnowski said.
A new team of specialist doctors and a new sub-ward
Since 4 January this year, the team has consisted of seven specialist doctors. Two of them specialize in treating arterial hypertension and diseases of the digestive system. The qualifications of the new staff make it possible to meet patients’ needs at an appropriate level. What is more, the hospital authorities plan to open a new gastroenterology sub-ward.
Replacing the old equipment will certainly be helpful. The new endoscopy unit is to be ready within three months.
Improved patient comfort
The number of beds in the ward has been reduced, as some were not being used. This made it possible to use the space more effectively and improve the conditions for hospitalized patients.
“Patients in our ward are generally elderly. Most are bedridden, so convenient access to the patient is very important. I took this into account. The beds have been arranged comfortably and conveniently for both patients and staff,” Janusz Żołnowski emphasized.
Shorter waiting lists for examinations
The acting head of the ward also reported that waiting lists at the hospital are getting much shorter. Examinations at the endoscopy unit are being performed on an ongoing basis, so the waiting time for an appointment does not exceed 21 days.
The ward currently provides diagnostics in the fields of non-invasive cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, nephrology, angiology and pulmonology.
Medical doctor Janusz Żołnowski has served as acting head of the internal medicine ward since 1 January 2010. Previously, he was head of such a ward at the hospital in Chojnów and a senior assistant in the internal medicine ward at the Regional Specialist Hospital “Latawiec” in Świdnica.
