During Wednesday’s meeting of the councillors, the issue of the opening hours of restaurants in Bolesławiec’s market square was discussed, among other matters. They asked why, even on weekends, the outdoor dining areas close at 10 p.m. and life comes to a standstill in the centre of the City of Ceramics.

Mayor Piotr Roman:

This is a dispute that has been going on in Bolesławiec for several decades. On one side, we have restaurateurs and some customers who would like to sit a little longer in these outdoor dining areas, disregarding the rules concerning disturbance of the peace and so on. And we have the residents. Some residents actively inform the police.

He added:

I was in Wrocław at midnight. I saw what was happening there in the market square. The restaurants were full. Walking through the city at night with Professor Gwiazdowski, we could not find a place to have a quiet dinner.

The mayor mentioned that in Siegburg, Bolesławiec’s partner city, all restaurants invite their customers inside at 10 p.m.

Mayor P. Roman noted:

People live in the market square and have their needs. I know that some restaurateurs have managed to reach an agreement with these people.

He added:

I am unable to say how the nighttime quiet hours should be abolished. Perhaps people simply need to come to restaurants earlier?

What do you think? How do you deal with the fact that life in the city centre comes to a standstill at 10 p.m.? We invite you to join the discussion.
