The collection presented at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre by Mateusz Grobelny was inspired by warrior figures. Eleven models selected at a casting presented outfits dominated by bucklers, capes and epaulettes. In the collection, elements created to protect the male body from injury during battle served a different purpose. In a sophisticated manner, they protected the models’ delicate nudity. There were contoured, body-hugging corset-armours, as well as chainmail bracelets, strap-shoulders and soldiers’ cape-dresses.
The artist’s collection continues to reveal a fascination with fire. The models’ figures could have emerged from the flames of a fanatical battle. The textures of the canvas coverings—whether in the form of capes or dresses—rippled like tongues of fire. One of the most fiery outfits was a flame-red dress shaped like a Chinese pagoda.
The outfits were dominated by original tops combined with slit tunics revealing the stomachs and hips, and tight trousers. Leather belts fastened around the models’ necks emphasised their warrior-like appearance. Particularly original was the combination of a wedding dress with a train made of imitation ermine.
A highly theatrical collection, with rich and intriguing outfits. They drew attention through their combination of materials: leather, canvas, wood and metal. The models, some appearing in this role for the first time, performed wonderfully at the show. And it was an exceptional one.
The collection is available for sale, and the first customers have already appeared. Congratulations to the author.
