As reported by Lidia Tkaczyszyn, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica, the local District Prosecutor’s Office has completed its investigation and filed an indictment with the court against the perpetrator responsible for destroying the flower shop.

The crime took place in December 2020, just before Christmas, in Legnica. Artur Rz. drove up to the flower shop, got out of his car and doused the goods displayed outside with a substance. The unpleasant smell penetrated the premises. Both the flowers and the entire property became saturated with the distinctive odor.

An expert determined that the substance used by Rz. was acid. The losses caused by the man were estimated at PLN 400,000. (After the incident, the premises required renovation, while the goods were no longer fit for sale).

Another aspect of the case was also investigated. However, a different expert concluded that there had been no direct danger to people’s lives or health.

The perpetrator was detained and then, at the prosecutor’s request, remanded in custody. The man will stand trial for damaging property of considerable value. Since Artur Rz. had already been convicted multiple times, including for theft abroad, he faces a sentence of between one and as many as 15 years in prison.

The suspect claimed that he had committed the crime on the orders of another person unknown to him. Investigators, however, found no evidence to support his statement. What is more, before the aforementioned act of vandalism, Rz. committed another offense: he arrived at the scene by car despite having had his driving privileges revoked.
