Residents of Brzeźnik, Mierzwin, Ocice, Nowa, Kolonia Śliszów and Kolonia Pietruszka will benefit from the new sewage system. A total of 2,500 new users are to be connected to the system. As a result, approximately 500 household septic tanks will be eliminated. Wastewater from these localities will be transported through a pipeline to the municipal sewage system, from where it will flow to the treatment plant.
Residents of the Staszica housing estate have the greatest hopes for the modernization of the municipal wastewater treatment plant. They hope that the unpleasant odor, which is particularly troublesome on warm days, will finally be reduced. According to the treatment plant redevelopment project, the odor will be reduced by constructing a single enclosed anaerobic digestion chamber. The resulting gases, hydrogen sulfide and methane, are to be used to heat buildings on the treatment plant grounds. Work related to the modernization of the treatment plant will continue until August 2006.
