Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol:

Based on the information obtained from the reconnaissance and identification of the shell that we recovered [...] in Pobiedna near Świeradów, it is probably a:

  • Schwere Feldgranate C/73 heavy double-walled shell with a lead jacket (used in the 9 cm C/73 Feldkanone developed after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71).

More about the shell

  • length: 225 mm,
  • diameter: approx. 88 mm,
  • width of the lower rings: 24 mm,
  • distance between the lower and upper rings: 74 mm,
  • diameter of the fuze socket: approx. 23 mm.

As the bomb disposal specialists emphasize, this is an object of significant historical value. For this reason, the shell attracted the attention of the uniformed services, who decided to attempt to save its body and donate it to a museum.

The Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol adds:

Unfortunately, such ammunition is rare in our work and in our area, and work is still under way to conduct a detailed examination of the shell’s design and construction.

We have already reported on the whole matter in the article A rare unexploded shell from before World War I. Bomb disposal specialists want to… save it.
