Left-wing MP Robert Obaz addressed the health minister in strong words, asking him during a Sejm sitting in March this year: why does he lie and try to whitewash himself? These strong words concerned the consequences of restrictions on scheduled procedures for oncology patients introduced by the minister.
We are speaking with the MP on Monday, April 12, at 6:00 p.m.. If you have personal stories related to cancer treatment during the pandemic, you can describe them in the comments. The conversation with the MP will be conducted live. During it, you can ask our guest questions.
Robert Obaz:
The minister said that all life-saving procedures are being performed. That is an abuse.
People wrote to me that their loved ones were not being treated.
It is difficult to make up for heart or oncology surgeries.
What outraged me most was when the minister said that everything was fine and that we had everything under control. Unfortunately, that is not the case.
Doctors said they were having trouble providing treatment because today everything is focused on COVID.
No treatment, no rehabilitation. Teleconsultations are not working. Doctors who provide consultations by phone see patients privately.
I have great respect for the doctors and nurses who are fighting for our lives. The government is responsible for the current situation.
The woman from Jedlina was being transported to a COVID hospital in Bolesławiec. The hospital network was poorly planned.
In Głogów, during a protest against the restrictions, three people, including a woman, were detained.
The police are carrying out activities in the matter.
We know that the police are trained in how to restrain people.
Controversy has been caused by grabbing the woman by the throat and throwing her to the ground.
Earlier, police officers detained people who possessed drugs.
The conduct of the police officer is being investigated by the provincial commander, the chief commander and the prosecutor’s office.
The police published their own video, in which the woman can be seen kicking a shield and using vulgar language. However, that does not justify grabbing her by the throat and knocking her to the ground.
I hope the police will clarify everything.
Through their conduct during the Women’s Strikes, the police have lost a great deal. Public trust has declined.
Cancer patients have limited access to treatment during the pandemic. In April 2020, the Polish Oncology Federation appealed to the health minister. In its view, patients were deprived of access to services because hospitals suspended scheduled admissions, and the paralysis of healthcare related to the COVID-19 pandemic affected cancer patients to a particular degree. The MP was also affected by a personal tragedy. His father, who had cancer, had his surgery postponed four times. Robert Obaz’s father died without receiving help.
