As reported by the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship:

Interregional cooperation between Lower Silesia and the Free State of Saxony is not slowing down because of COVID-19. At Saxony’s initiative, Lower Silesia was invited to participate in a project involving the sequencing of COVID-19 DNA and the study of the mutations occurring in it. On the Lower Silesian side, the project is being carried out by the County Hospital in Bolesławiec. Positively diagnosed swabs, in completely anonymous form, will be sent to Saxony, where specialists will examine them for the mutations present.

– I am grateful to Saxony for remembering Lower Silesia in projects of this kind. Thanks to this, we are gaining knowledge not only about the virus itself and how it mutates, but above all about how individual mutations are spreading in the border area – explains Marshal Cezary Przybylski of Bezpartyjni Samorządowcy.

This is not the end of new initiatives during the pandemic. At the initiative of Marshal C. Przybylski, the Saxon government is examining the possibility of recognizing Polish vaccination certificates as documents exempting their holders from mandatory testing when crossing the border. Officials say:

This is very important because an agreement on this matter would significantly improve traffic in the border area and, in the long term, make life easier for cross-border workers. A person carrying a QR code confirming vaccination would not have to undergo virus testing and would not be subject to certain restrictions.

– If we manage to implement this idea, it will not only be the first initiative of this kind in the border area, but will also enable a return to normality, especially for entrepreneurs, cross-border workers and their families – concludes Marshal Cezary Przybylski.
