Using the set, precancerous lesions within the walls of the colon and rectum are removed and treated. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The patient’s safety is overseen by the physician-operator, the anesthesiologist and the nursing team. The patient avoids extensive surgery, does not require a stoma, and recovery is incomparably shorter. Patients of all ages may qualify for this type of procedure.
After the procedure is completed and the lesions are removed, the patient does not experience pain. The length of the hospital stay is significantly reduced. Any discomfort that may occur is comparable to the sensations following a routine colonoscopy.
Traditional surgical methods of removing lesions from the intestinal walls carry a risk of complications. An additional advantage of the EFTR procedure is that the entire tumor is excised, after which the resection site is secured with a metal clip.
Procedures of this type are performed at only a few medical centers in Poland.
