As reported by the Bolesławiec municipal authorities, on February 10, Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman handed Michał Dworczyk, head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, a letter concerning delays in the reconstruction of the transport system, including a bridge over the Bóbr River in Bolesławiec along national road no. 94, serving as an alternative route to the A4 motorway.

(At the beginning of February, we asked the press spokesperson for the Wrocław branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways about the matter. So far, we have not received a response.)

Bolesławiec local government:

The effects of the delays in the reconstruction can be observed particularly now, during winter. A congested motorway, on which traffic volume increases year by year, forces drivers to seek alternative routes, shifting all the traffic onto national road no. 94.

The result? As municipal officials sum it up: “Hours-long journeys and stoppages disrupt traffic in the city and degrade infrastructure that is not prepared for such loads.”

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Infrastructure, the mayor of Bolesławiec states, among other things:

Our greatest concern is the condition of the more-than-century-old bridge over the Bóbr. This enormous east–west traffic almost completely blocks north–south traffic along provincial road no. 297, due to the lack of the north-eastern section of Bolesławiec’s bypass. This is an investment of great importance for national defence, as it could provide access from Golnice (A18) and the Bolesławiec motorway interchange (A4 in Łąka) to Kruszyn and, via the existing section of the bypass, to the military unit where U.S. Army vehicles are stationed and move between the camps of the Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) in Skwierzyna, Żagań, Świętoszów and Bolesławiec. The Local Government Roads Fund allows for financing urgent defence-related needs; however, this requires a positive opinion from the Ministry for the investor, the Lower Silesian Voivodeship—specifically the Lower Silesian Roads and Railways Service in Wrocław.

During a meeting at the Marshal's Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Mayor Piotr Roman learned that there is a chance the documentation for constructing a bridge over the Bóbr River will be completed this year. There is also a declaration of support for constructing the bypass from a reserve fund connected with the presence of U.S. troops.

We will certainly return to this topic.
