Officers from the Border Guard Post in Zgorzelec, together with officers of the Lower Silesian National Revenue Administration, stopped a transport carrying 1,800 kg of dried tobacco on the motorway. Its estimated value was PLN 908,000. “The carrier failed to report the transport of goods subject to monitoring in the SENT system. This offense carries a fine of PLN 20,000,” reports Maj. SG Joanna Konieczniak, press spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit. “The stopped vehicle also had no geolocation device. As a result, the 32-year-old driver received a PLN 7,000 fine.”
“On the same day, as part of a routine inspection at the town market in Sieniawka, KAS officers from Zgorzelec discovered more than 60,000 cigarettes and 36 kg of tobacco without Polish excise-duty markings,” adds Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, press spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS.
Further proceedings in this case are being conducted by the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office. KAS and the Border Guard remind the public:
Products originating from illegal production do not meet quality standards and may contain toxic substances, such as asbestos, moldy tobacco, shredded leaves and other waste, in their composition.
