The incident occurred on Tuesday, 26 January, in Bukowina Bobrzańska (Żagań County). As reported by 34 Brygada Kawalerii Pancernej w Żaganiu:
Senior private Norbert Susłyk, senior private Henryk Witnik, senior private Damian Feliński and private Maciej Odrzywolski performed admirably, rescuing a young man who was involved in an accident on the road in Bukowina Bobrzańska. “The driver pulled out from a minor road onto the main road and drove into the path of a bus. We stopped and thought only about getting him out of the wrecked vehicle as quickly as possible. We removed the battery from under the bonnet and tore off the door. The man suffered head and leg injuries; Private Odrzywolski monitored his general condition. Damian Feliński directed traffic until the police and ambulance arrived,” said Senior Private Norbert Susłyk.
The uniformed officers add:
The soldiers are not professional paramedics, but they know the principles of first aid very well. Through their actions, they showed that they can keep a cool head, even in difficult situations.
