The incident occurred on Wednesday (December 30). A smell of smoke was noticeable in one of the apartments in the building on Wybickiego Street in Bolesławiec. In addition, the alarm in a carbon monoxide (CO) detector was activated. Firefighters went to the scene.
There was no fire in the building. However, it turned out that in the apartment above the reporting resident’s apartment, carbon monoxide detectors recorded 170 ppm (the detectors issue a warning at 30–50 ppm). The firefighters ordered the furnaces to be extinguished. The building was ventilated.
Two people who were in the apartment where the carbon monoxide concentration was elevated were evacuated. A medical rescue team was called to the scene.
Together with the fire service, we appeal to residents to ensure that heating systems and their technical condition (chimney installations) are properly maintained. Inspection deadlines for the installations should also be observed. It is also worth obtaining a carbon monoxide detector. The device can save lives.
